Details about a five-part basketry series that will take place in Nantucket, MA. in May and June, 2006.  Most of these lectures and demonstrations are about Nantucket Baskets and Nantucket Purses.

May 18, 7:00 pm, "Ivory Carvings and Old Time Lightship Basket Makers": Ivory carver Nancy Chase and Nantucket Lightship Basket collector David Wood will discuss the tradition of lightship baskets on Nantucket and the process of carving ivory (scrimshaw) - Nantucket Atheneum, I India Street, Nantucket, MA. 508 228-1110. June 1, 7:00 pm, "Basketry in the Great Lakes Region": Ms. Kathleen Myers will present an overview of basketry in the Great Lakes Region, including its historical roots, wide variety and influential basket makers.
